Purkes, Lena Floy Tozer Bowman – Obituary

Mrs. Lena F. Purkes, aged 92, passed away on January 25, 1973, at Fairview Medical Facility in Centerville. Born on July 26, 1880, in LeRoy, Michigan, she married Edson R. Bowman in 1902, and later Thomas Purkes in 1951. A member of the First Baptist Church, she is survived by a son, three daughters, 11 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren. Visitation is scheduled at Foglesong Funeral Home, with services on January 29, 1973, followed by interment at Oak Lawn Cemetery.

Bowman, Sylvester Gerald – Obituary

Sylvester G. Bowman, 55, of Reed City, passed away suddenly on March 12, 1977. Born on April 28, 1921, in Burdell Township, he was a lifelong resident of the area and a 1939 LeRoy High School graduate. Bowman worked as a foreman at Conalco Industries since 1953 and was a veteran of WWII. He is survived by his wife, Helen, three daughters, five sisters, one brother, and six grandchildren. His funeral took place on March 14, with burial at Maple Hill Cemetery.

Johnson, Violet Evangeline Bowman – Obituary

Violet E. Johnson, 79, of LeRoy, passed away on September 9, 1992, at Mercy Hospital in Cadillac. Born on April 6, 1913, near Tustin, she was a lifelong resident of the area. Survived by her son, Terry; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren, she also leaves behind a brother and three sisters. Services were conducted on September 12 at Pruitt-Livingston Funeral Home, with burial at LeRoy Township Cemetery. Donations may be made to Mercy Hospital or Zion Lutheran Church.
