Wortman Dies Very Suddenly Mrs. John Wortman passed away yesterday afternoon, Wednesday January 5, 1927, at the La Grande hospital where she had been taken for an operation for appendicitis. She never rallied from the operation. Kathryn Dufur was born in Waupaca, Wisconsin, April 8, 1884, and came west with her father and the family in 1901, going first to Bellingham, Washington. La Grande, Oregon Donald W. Gibbs, 77, of Redmond and formerly of La Grande, died March 12 of Parkinson’s disease. A private family memorial service took place March 17. Redmond Memorial Chapel handled the arrangements. Mr. Gibbs was born Sept. 13, 1929, to Hallie and Mary (Kane) Gibbs in Spokane, Wash. Aged Man Victim La Grande Auto Crash La Grande, Dec. 20. Fielding W. Hail, 68 years of age, was killed early this morning when a car driven by Ray Billups, of Walla Walla, left the road near Island City and overturned. Mr. Hail, who occupied the back seat, was thrown from the car, the crash fracturing his skull and causing internal injuries. He was dead when found about half an hour after the accident.
