Herbert Harrell, 39, former valley resident, died at Laramie, Wyoming, Wednesday, September 14 [1938]. Born at Rogersville, Tenn., August 5, 1899, he came west with his parents in the spring of 1909. Her parents settled in the Kittitas Valley and he received his education in the Ridgeway and Thorp schools. He was married to Eula Mundy April 27, 1917. Bender, Maria Elizabeth Hayes – Obituary

Mrs. Maria E. Bender, daughter of one of the earliest Kittitas Valley pioneer families, died Saturday morning March 30, 1968, at Bernaths Nursing Home at the age of 82 years. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. James T. Hayes A Valley resident all of her life, she was married to Louis Bender June 22, 1907, at Ellensburg. He preceded her in death in 1946. Gerard, Ida May (Hall) – Obituary

Mrs. Ida M. Gerard, 91, a former Ellensburg resident, died Wednesday at the Central Memorial Hospital in Toppenish. She had been in the hospital one day, having been in the Parkside Sanitarium in Toppenish since March 21. She was born July 26, 1866, in Covington, Kentucky. She was married to Joseph N. Gerard in Mt. Vernon, Ill. in 1884. He preceded her in death in February, 1938 in Los Angeles. Mrs. Gerard came to Ellensburg from Mt. Helen Bailes, 90, former Ellensburg area resident, died Monday evening at her home in Seattle. She was born December 17, 1889 in Oregon. She married Amos Bailes in Oregon [married in Yakima Co., WA]. They settled in the Fairview District where they homesteaded until his death in 1932. Mrs. Bailes moved to Seattle in 1943. James (Tiny) H. Thomas, 5, Rt. 3 Box 88, Ellensburg, died Wednesday at his home following an extended illness [February 2, 1977]. He was born in Ellensburg Feb. 1, 1902, a son of the late W. R. and Bessie Cleveland Thomas. During most of his adult life, he farmed on the home ranch in the Nanum and Wilson Creek area. Mrs. Ida Ferrier, 78, wife of Jess Ferrier, a Kittitas Valley resident more than half a century, died last night October 8, 1944. Born in Iowa, she came to the valley in 1889. Besides her husband, a brother and a sister survive her. Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 3 o’clock at the Honeycutt Chapel, with Rev. W. M. Martin officiating. Burial will be in the IOOF Cemetery. Ida’s parents were Justice Beaman and Eliza Rhodes. Her first husband was Samuel Cox. She divorced him by 1910.

After a year of suffering caused by tuberculosis, Mrs. Anna Marie Morefield, 29 years old, passed away this morning [December 2, 1920] at the home of her mother, Mrs. Catharine Morrison, in the Sunnyside Addition. Mrs. Morefield was born March 2, 1891, seven miles east of Ellensburg, and has made her home in the Kittitas valley all of her life. In 1910 she was married to W. R. The body of Mrs. E. J. McEwen who died in Seattle on Monday [May 23, 1916] after a long illness with pulmonary tuberculosis, arrived in Ellensburg last night and was taken to the parlor of M. L. Sudden Death of Mrs. E. L. Ferrier. Mrs. E. L. Ferrier died suddenly at her home in the north end on Wednesday. She had been an invalid for several years, but since coming here about a year ago, she had felt much better, but a hard cold quickly prostrated her and she passed away before it was realized how dangerous her condition was. Mrs. Addie Noble, 78, a resident of Ellensburg since 1908, died Saturday evening [June 14, 1941] here. She had been ill for 10 days. Mrs. Noble was born at LaHarte, Ohio, July 4, 1862. She was married to Louis Noble in Colorado on December 5, 1880. Her husband, who died some time ago, was a postman here. Three daughters survive her. William A. Grissom, a well-known pioneer of Kittitas County, died last night March 14, 1910 at the Valley house. Mr. Grissom was 50 years old and his death was due to dropsy. He is survived by a son, Robert, and six daughters, Ethel, Kate, Myrtle, Ellie Belle, and Vera. The funeral services will be held tomorrow at Rose & Inman’s chapel at 2:30 p.m. Burial in IOOF Cemetery.

McEwen, Catherine Chambers – Obituary

Near Oakland, Mason County, Oct 16, 1876 of heart disease, Mrs. Catherine McEwen, aged 87. Catherine was the daughter of William H. Chambers and Mary Ann Perry. She was married to the Rev. James McEwen. Catherine was the mother of John Hager McEwen. Her son John was a well-known pioneer of Oakland and Ellensburg. Catherine was buried in the Oakland Cemetery. The grave is no longer marked. A memorial headstone has been placed in the Shelton Memorial Cemetery.

Robert Cooke, 72, of Ellensburg, died Friday at the Gold Leaf Care Center. He was born on Long Island, New York, January 1, 1917. He and Gwen (Ferguson) Davis were married in Seattle on Sept. 20, 1951. They came to Ellensburg in 1957. Mr. Cooke was a merchant seaman until retirement in 1965. Marguerite L. Seaton, 72, of Rt. 5, died Thursday morning [December 13, 1984] at her home. She was born Jan. 18, 1912, in Ellensburg, a daughter of Emil and Marie Stampfly. She attended the rural Fairview School and Ellensburg High School. She and Ralph Seaton were married Feb. 1, 1930 in Yakima. They farmed in the Fairview District until retirement in 1969.
