Fix, Samuel Edgar – Obituary

Samuel Edgar Fix, 80, who came to Orting in 1890 and who later built the Kapowsin School and the Eatonville gymnasium, died Tuesday [April 3, 1951] at a Puyallup Hospital. He was born in Minnesota, son of Mr. and Mrs. P. W. Fix. His father was a Civil War veteran. S. E. Fix attended schools in Minnesota and Orting, then went to Alaska in 1901, engaging in placer mining for two years. He returned to Kapowsin in 1903 to work in various sawmills. Baker City, Oregon Harry Smith, 81, a 50-year resident of Morton, Wash., and a former Baker City resident, died Feb. 7, 2003, at the Centralia Providence Hospital. There was a private family service. Arrangements were under the direction of Brown Mortuary at Morton. Harry was born on March 1, 1921, at Portland to Harry and Ruth Spencer Smith. He was raised at Baker City and joined the U.S. Army in September 1940. Harry saw action in the battles of Rhineland, Ardennes, Central Europe and the Aleutian Islands. Russell Oro Fix, 87, died Oct. 28, 1993. He was born Oct 3, 1906 in Anaheim, CA, however, he has lived in Kapowsin, WA, since he was three months old. His parents, Samuel Edgar Fix and Clara Jane Harris were early Washington pioneers. His father came to Orting, Washington Territory, in 1889 and his mother in 1874. Russ was graduated from Kapowsin High School in 1925 and attended the University of Washington where he majored in forestry and rowed on the UW crew team. Mrs. S. E. Fix, 78, former Pierce County resident, died Tuesday in a hospital at Olympia. She was born at Rockford, Ontario, Canada, and came to the United States with her parents in 1884. The family made its home at Auburn, and prior to her marriage, Mrs. Fix taught in Orting schools. She was married January 28, 1903 at Auburn and for many years the couple made its home at Kapowsin, later moving to Olympia. She had been ill the past few years. Charles Austin Fix was born near Lydia, Scott County, Minnesota, September 11, 1872 and he passed away at his home in Kapowsin, Washington, June 23, 1931 at the age of 58 years, 9 months and 12 days.
