The death of Mrs. Lu Read, wife of Dr. S.D. Read, of this city, occurred at the home of her parents, near Junction City, this state, at 3:40 a.m. Sept. 28. Mrs. Read had been in poor health for several weeks and in August she went down to the home of her parents in Marion county, with the hope that the change would do her good. Lester Elvin Talbott, 94, of Junction City, and a former Baker City resident, died March 22, 2002. His funeral will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Murphy-Musgrove Funeral Chapel in Junction City. Visitations will be Tuesday from noon to 2 p.m. at the funeral chapel. Burial will be at Alford Cemetery. Mr. Talbott was born Dec. 23, 1907, at Tillamook to Francis and Franky (Farley) Talbott. Annie Beddes O’Neil, 91, of Junction City and formerly of La Grande, died March 13 of age-related causes. A graveside service will begin at 1 p.m. Monday at Lane Memorial Gardens in Eugene. Mrs. Jessie Nash Withrow, 78, of 2014 NW Glisan St., former switchboard operator for The Oregonian, died Thursday [September 4, 1969] at a local hospital after a long illness. Mrs. Withrow was born in Junction City, Sept. 13, 1890. She had lived in Portland for the past 60 years. She worked on The Oregonian’s switchboard for 23 years. She is survived by one brother, Ralph Phelps, Milwaukee. No services will be held. The family suggests that any remembrance be in the form of donations to Seeing Eye Dog Fund, P.O. Bean at Acme, Tuesday, March 11 [1890], an account of which was published in last week’s GUARD, was attended with a fatal result He never regained consciousness after the accident [died March 15, 1890]. George L. Klinge, age 81, of 840 Holly St., Junction City passed away at a local nursing home April 19, 1971.
