The ABC Family Chronicles

A number of years ago this author was researching information for a local history book. During that time she encountered numerous names that were members of her family heritage. That heritage went back in time in that same local area over a hundred years ago. Four of her family lines which came to Shelby County, Illinois are discussed in this volume. Charles H. Meyer was a German, and settled in Tucson in 1854. From 1875 he served several times as City Recorder. His court was unique; every man, when first brought before him for any misdemeanor, he would treat leniently, sometimes giving him a lecture, but for the second offense, he usually imposed a heavy fine, and in addition, would send the offender to the chain gang. Richard M. Kleinhans is a veteran railroad man, having been in the active service more than twenty years. Haun, Ludwigh Mrs. – Obituary

Mrs. Ludwig Haun died on Tuesday evening of last week at the family home in O.K. Gulch very suddenly. She had been in her usual health and had prepared the evening meal as usual and was in the yard when stricken and died at 11:30. In this city at the family residence at about 1:30 o’clock yesterday morning, the death of Mr. Morris Fox occurred after a gradual decline in health covering a period of several months. Martin Michels, Sr., aged 80 years and a pioneer citizen of Ellensburg, died yesterday [February 14, 1917] at his home north of the city after an illness of several years.
