His parents were Isaac and Deborah Folmsbee; his father, who was major in the United States regular army, died when the subject of this sketch had reached the age of seven years, and his mother followed him to the grave “some two years later. Frank Ewing began the study of law with R. W. P. Muse, of Zanesville, Ohio, in 1856, and was admitted to the bar in 1859 by the Supreme Court of Ohio; From 1846 to 1867 he was a successful farmer in that State, and during the last nine years of his residence there held the office of justice of the peace. William Henry McClung, son of Charles and Mary McClung, was born in what is now Jamesport township, this county, February 20, 1842. When he was five years old his parents removed to Greenbrier county, Virginia, where young McClung was reared a farmer, and attended the schools held an the log school houses prevalent in that portion of the country.
