Biography of Miss Lura E. Mount

Since 1920 Miss Lura E. Mount has been active as county superintendent of schools of Adair county. She is a native of this county, having been born in 1895 near Stilwell, where she now resides. Her parents were R. S. and Pearl (Denton) Mount, both of whom are now deceased. In the acquirement of an education Miss Mount attended the public schools of Stilwell and after graduating from the high school here, she enrolled as a student in the Northeast Normal College at Tahlequah, from which institution she was graduated in 1915. James Madison Pierce, born December 13, 1877, in Hall County, Georgia. They were the parents of Gertrude, born June 3, 1897; Mark, born November 7, 1898; James Clayton, born February 7, 1902 and Earl B. Pierce, born February 8, 1905. Mr. Pierce is one of the wealthiest cotton farmers of the Muskogee-Fort Gibson section, owning and operating hundreds of acres of valuable land, and several cotton gins.

James G. Mehlin, a pioneer farmer of Nowata county who is now residing one and one-half miles northeast of Alluwe, was born in Stuttgart, Wurtemburg, Germany, on the 21st of January, 1841.
