Halfway, Baker County, Oregon Marie Christene Bennett Thomas, 91, of Halfway, died Jan. 9, 2003, at her home. Marie requested that should she die during the winter months, a service be delayed until spring so that all of her family could travel on safe roads. And so in honoring her request, there will be a celebration of Marie’s life in the spring. Marie was born on Aug. 12, 1911, at Baker City to Claude Eugene and Agnes Gertrude Miles Bennett. Michael Carey, a member of the Idaho state senate (session of 1899), and one of the leading mine-owners of the commonwealth, now residing at Ketchum, Blaine County, is a native of the Emerald Isle. He was born December 12, 1844, a son of Michael and Mary (Tracy) Carey, both of whom were natives of Ireland, whence they crossed the Atlantic to the United States in 1850, bringing with them their family of seven children. Alice was born to Stanley Carter and Onlie Foster Wright on Feb. 5, 1914, at Clovis, N.M. She was the oldest of four children. She grew up in various locations in Iowa and Missouri. Teresa Ann Lewis Vaughan began her next great journey on Sunday, Aug. 5, 2007, surrounded by family and friends. Teresa was born July 2, 1955, in Ontario, Ore., to Keith and Fern Lewis. She lived in Ontario until the summer of her 17th year when her father’s promotion with the Oregon State police moved the family to Baker City. Teresa always had a great love for animals.
