Promise, Oregon William Wart Sr. William Jay Wart Sr., 75 of Rt. 1, Weston, died May 28, 1985, at St. Anthony Hospital in Pendleton. The graveside service was at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Enterprise Cemetery, Enterprise, Ore. The Rev. Edward Morrison officiated. Wart was born July 21, 1909, in Baker, Ore., to Louis and Florence Wilcox Wart. The family moved to Promise, Ore. in 1913. Funeral Services For Armintia A. Sturm Paradise, Oregon Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon at Paradise for Mrs. Armintia A. Sturm who passed away at her home there Sunday, May 26, 1940. E.E. Callahan, pastor of the Enterprise Christian church, was in charge of the services, and interment was in the Paradise cemetery beside her husband and son. Pall bearers were Albert Wilson, William Curry, Doc Shelton, B.D. Beach, William Frazier and Baley Shelton. Orville Dee Shirley, 79, of La Grande, died June 2, 2006, at St. Elizabeth Health Services. Cremation will take place at Eastern Oregon Pioneer Crematory in Baker City. Burial of the cremated remains will be later at the Enterprise Cemetery. Orville as born on Oct. 21, 1926, at Wallowa to Chet and Lady Clair Mabor Shirley. He lived at Enterprise until age 15 when the family moved to the Willamette Valley. He worked in the Oregon shipyards during the war. Joseph, Oregon Samuel Grant Huffman, 69, of Baker City and formerly of Joseph died June 15 at his home. At his request there will be no services. Gray’s West & Company Pioneer Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Huffman was born Sept. 4, 1936, in Joseph. He drove logging trucks for E.T. Carter Logging, Kenny Mills logging and others. He always said logging was in his blood. He and his wife Qwendolyn and their three children moved to Utah. Joseph, Oregon Elizabeth Patterson, 97, died Oct. 5 at the Wallowa Valley Care Center in Enterprise. A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Baker City. Mr. Patterson was born June 30, 1909, to Frederick A. and Mary A. Bokop in Defiance, Ohio. She attended Western College in Oxford, Ohio, and graduated from the University of Wisconsin in 1931 with a bachelor’s degree in secondary education. His funeral will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Baker City Church of the Nazarene, 1250 Hughes Lane. There will be a reception afterward at the church’s Family Life Center. Minam, Oregon George Gill, 76, of Baker City passed away at his home on June 6, 2007. Memorial Services will be held at the Eagles, 2935 H St. in Baker City on Saturday, June 16, at 1 p.m. An additional memorial will be held on the Minam at a later date. Enterprise, Oregon Georgettae Pearl “Georgie” Colpitts, 69, of Baker City, died June 20, 2007, at her home. There will be a graveside celebration of her life at 11 a.m. Saturday at Pine Haven Cemetery in Halfway. A potluck reception is scheduled afterward at the Pine Valley Veterans of Foreign Wars Hall in Halfway. Visitations will be Friday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Tami’s Pine Valley Funeral Home in Halfway. Wallowa, Oregon Lois Cowan of Wallowa died May 17, 2006, at the Wallowa Memorial Hospital after a short illness. She was 94. Mrs. Cowan was born Jan. 31, 1912, in Elgin to James Elvis and Bertha Witty Witherspoon. She grew up on the family farm on Cricket Flat and attended the Hindman Country School. She graduated from Elgin High School in 1931. After graduating, Lois worked as a telephone operator and a clerk in a grocery store. On June 26, 1938, she married Carl Raymond Cowan in Elgin.
