Woolery Coffman of Otterbein, a Civil War veteran, died at the home of his son, Robert, Lafayette Route J., Tuesday afternoon at 3:45 o’clock of a complication of diseases.
He was born in Tippecanoe County, August 13, 1844, the son of William and Sarah Coffman, the youngest of a family of 11 children. On December 7, 1861 when 17 years of age he enlisted in Company D. Indiana Infantry, and served throughout the war, being discharged on January 20, 1865, at Madison , Ind.
In 1872 [April 24, 1873] he was married to Nancy Meeks who died in 1884. Three children survive from this union, Mrs. Ada Colson and R. L. Coffman of Tippecanoe County, and Mrs. Stella Brown of Remington. He was married for the second time in 1902 to Mary Etta German who died September 25, 1924.
Funeral services will be held at the United Brethren Church in Otterbein Thursday afternoon at 2 o’clock with GAR in charge of the services. Rev. W. B. Taylor of Logansport will preach the funeral sermon. Burial will be in Pond Grove Cemetery.
