John Franklin Coffman, M. D. For nearly ten years Doctor Coffman had successfully practiced as a physician and surgeon in Marion. Throughout that period he was associated with Dr. E. P. Marner, one of the oldest physicians of Marion County, and their relations were dissolved only when Doctor Coffman answered the call for duty in the medical department of the American army. He was born July 1, 1883, at Glenwood, Iowa, a son of John Franklin and Mary E. (Turpin) Coffman. George Coffman died at his home in Montmorenci at 10 o’clock Wednesday night [May 12, 1926]. He suffered a stroke of apoplexy a few days ago. Mr. Coffman was 70 years old and was employed as a laborer. His wife died 20 years ago. Surviving are three sons, and a daughter, Job Coffman of Lafayette, Lonnie and Arthur Coffman and Mrs. Lyda German all of Montmorenci. Isaac Coffman, a veteran of the rebellion, died at his home in Montmorenci yesterday morning [June 2, 1895] at 10 o’clock of dropsy, aged 65 years. He leaves a large family of grown children to mourn his death. The funeral will be conducted from the residence this morning at 10 o’clock, Rev. H. H. Dunlavy officiating. David H. Coffman is one of the older residents of Champaign County, went from this district to serve in the Union Army during the Civil War, and has turned his hand with credit and success to many undertakings, from farming to commercial lines. Mr. Coffman is now an honored retired resident of the city of Champaign, where in 1909 he built a substantial two-story home at 606 West Hill Street. Woolery Coffman of Otterbein, a Civil War veteran, died at the home of his son, Robert, Lafayette Route J., Tuesday afternoon at 3:45 o’clock of a complication of diseases. He was born in Tippecanoe County, August 13, 1844, the son of William and Sarah Coffman, the youngest of a family of 11 children. On December 7, 1861 when 17 years of age he enlisted in Company D. Coffman, farmer, was born in Greene County, Tenn., in 1828; removed with parents to Johnson County, Mo.; thence to that part of Lee County, Ia., known as the Spanish land grant; thence located in the edge of Putnam County, Mo., which in 1838 became Appanoose County, Ia.
