Genealogy of the Adams Family

Jonas Adams married Sarah Jefferds (both of Salem) (published July 5, 1729), and lived in Salem. His will was made Dec. 22, 1756; and proved May 16, 1757. He was a mariner, and after his death his widow conducted an inn. Her will was made March 20, 1780; and proved July 12, 1786.

Children:

  1. Elizabeth Adams, baptized in First church Jan. 30, 1731-2 ; married Caleb Griffith of Salem April 24, 1755; and died before 1780.
  2. Sarah Adams, baptized in First church Jan. 30, 1731-2; d. young.
  3. Samuel Adams, baptized in First church March l0, 1733-4; and probably died before 1756.
  4. Sarah Adams, baptized in First church March 21, 1735-6; married Jacob Bacon Sept. 16, 1790.
  5. Jonas Adams, baptized in First church March 26, 17378; was living in 1756 ; and died before 1780.
  6. William Adams, baptized in First church May 18, 1740; married Mary Flynt of Salem March 24, 1763; and had children living in 1780, when he was probably deceased.
  7. Daniel Adams, baptized in First church May 16, 1742; married Hepzibah Batchelder of Beverly March 14, 1773; and lived in Beverly. He was a master mariner; and from 1777 to 1781 he owned the Joseph Symonds place in Boxford. Children, born in Beverly:
    1. Josiah Batchelder Adams, born Oct. 27, 1774; died at sea.
    2. Daniel Adams, born Oct. 5, 1776;
    3. Mary Leach Adams, born Oct. 10, 1778; married Benjamin Blanchard;
    4. Hephzibah Adams, born Nov. 11, 1780; m. Freeland;
    5. Samuel Adams, born Oct. 10, 1782; married Sally Sugden Feb. 2, 1806;
    6. John Adams, born April 11, 1787; died at sea;
    7. Emily Adams, born Oct. 3, 1789 ; married Ebenezer Eveleth Oct. 27, 1808;
    8. Lucy Adams, born Feb. 27, 1792; married Ebenezer Berry Dec. 5, 1815; and died Feb. 8, 1858.
  8. Mary Adams, baptized in Tabernacle church June 15, 1746 ; living in 1780.

  • John Adams married Mary Stacey, both of Marblehead, July 17, 1739
  • Joseph B. Adams married Lois Boden Aug. 6, 1797.
  • Children of Robert and Jean Adams: Mary, born May 20, 1714; Jean, born July 12, 1718; William, born Nov. 29, 1720.
  • Nathaniel Adams lived in Marblehead; shopkeeper ; married Susannah Trevett Nov. 29, 1795, who was of Boston in 1813; he died Feb. 26, 1825, aged fifty-three;
  • Children: Samuel R. T., born Nov. 22, 1796; Mary W., born Feb. 16, 1800; Nathaniel, born Jan. 3, 1803; Nichael H., born May 11, 1806; John, born Aug. 28, 1808.

Ipswich Town Records

  • Children of Joseph Adams : Dolly, Lydia, Joseph, and Stephen, baptized Oct. 6, 1782; Isaac, baptized March 21, 1784; Nehemiah, baptized July 3, 1791.
  • Children of Stephen Adams: Stephen, baptized July 6, 1786; Hitty, baptized June 8, 1788; Sarah, baptized Jan. 9, 1791.
  • Emerson Adams died, of small pox, Feb. 18, 1778, aged sixteen.
  • Woodbridge Adams, a married man, died in Boston Dec. 11, 1749.
  • Dr. Samuel Adams married, first, Sarah _____ who died Sept. 24, 1787; and, second, Abigail Dodge Jan. 29, 1789. His son John baptized Oct. 5, 1783.

  • Margaret Adams married John Pease 30: 11: 1676-7.
  • Hannah Adams married Isaac Welman, March 13, 1678-9.
  • Widow Sarah Adams of Salem married Henry Harvey Dec. 12, 1700.
  • Hannah Adams married Thomas Keene, both of Salem, June 18, 1786.
  • William Adams married Hanna Cox, both of Salem, Jan. 12, 1781.
