Final Services for Life Long Cove Farmer Simeon M. (S. M. VANN) VANSCHOONHOVEN, age 84, passed away Monday, May 2. He was a life long farmer in the Cove area. Funeral services were held at the Cove Episcopal Church. Rev. Clarence Kopp conducted the service. Interment was at the Cove Cemetery. Mrs. Van Schoonhoven was born in Cove February 13, 1902 and has lived in that vicinity all her life. Mrs. Mary E. (Messenger) Van Houten, daughter of Colonel E. and Elizabeth M. Messenger, and wife of W. P. Van Houten, was born in Marion county, Ohio, January 14, 1848, and died in Baker City, Oregon, December 27, 1905, aged 57 years, 11 months and 13 days. She was married to W. P. Van Houten, October 10, 1866, at Marion, Ohio, and came west wither her husband and family in 1891, and settled in Union county where she has lived ever since. Icis L. Van Blokland, 91, of Tigard and formerly of La Grande, died Tuesday, Dec 25, 1990, at St. Vincent Hospital in Portland. A private family interment service was held Friday at the Island City Cemetery. A memorial service will be held later. Mrs. Van Blokland was born Aug. 21, 1899, at Kansas City, Mo., to Haskell and Letitia (Halstead) Bryant. She moved to Island City in 1912 and married Ray Van Blokland on Oct. 14, 1924. Albert Glenn Uhrig, 81, of Elgin, died Oct. 6, at his home on Stubblefield Mountain of natural causes. Services were held Oct. 10. Glenn was born May 12, 1926, to Albert and Ethel Seay Uhrig in Weiser, Idaho. He was the eldest of four brothers. Glenn was a veteran of the United States Army, serving his country during the later years of WWII in Korea. Glenn married Ruth Elmer on April 7, 1973, in La Grande. A life celebration reception will run from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Kiawanda Community Center in Pacific City. Terry was born July 14, 1935, to Irvin and Virgie (Wilson) Twedt in Omaha, Neb. Tuttle, resident of Oregon since her birth in Benton County Nov. 11, 1858, and a continuous resident of Union county for 57 years, was buried in the family plot of the cemetery at Elgin this afternoon, following services conducted at the First Presbyterian church. Tuttle, wife of Terry Tuttle, died on the old homestead three miles east of Summerville at 2 o’clock this morning. Imbler, Union County, Oregon Jeanette Tuttle, 89, of Imbler, and a resident of Union county since she was five years old, died at a local hospital yesterday after a long illness. She was born in Memphis, Mo., in 1858 and had lived in the county for 84 years. She was a member of the Elgin Order of Eastern Star and of the Episcopal church. Death of J. E. Tuttle J. E. Tuttle, of Union, was found unconscious at this home Thursday, Oct 12, at about 11 o’clock, after a few moment’s abasence of members of the family. Dr. Cromwell, the family physician, was called and found Mr. Tuttle suffering from paralysis, and he grew worse until about 1:30, when he died. Turner of this city died at the Protestant hospital in Baker yesterday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock from illness following the birth of a daughter January 23, 1931. Her condition, it is said, was not considered serious until last Sunday when Dr. Blakely of Baker was called. Laurie was born April 26, 1942, to Stanley and Jeanette Brown Mann in McMinnville. She married Darrell G. Turner on Jan. 23, 1961, in Boise.
