La Grande, Oregon Lawrence “Larry” Waliser, 84, of La Grande, died Aug. 26 at Grande Ronde Hospital of lung cancer. A private family service will be held with burial following at Summerville Cemetery. Daniels Chapel of the Valley is in charge of arrangements. Larry was born in January 1923 to George and Mary Waliser in Sykeston, N.D. His family settled in Milton-Freewater in 1934. At 17, Larry joined the Civilian Conservation Corps Camp at Heppner. F.L. Wade received a telegram from Portland, Wednesday announcing the death of his father, which occurred in the latter city on that date. Mr. Wade left on the evening train for Portland to attend the funeral. Patrick Wade was a resident of Elgin for a number of years, having come here from Iowa. Union Station Agent Dies  Weimer Von Winkler, station agent at Union, died Wednesday morning at the Grande Ronde hospital, following a short illness. It is reported that typhoid was the cause of death. Mr. Von Winkler was brought into La Grande last Saturday. He was aged 34 years and was employed at Union only about a week before his illness.
