Fred C. Beldin; retired Union Pacific fireman, died at his home Tuesday of an extended illness. Graveside services will be held at Hillcrest cemetery Saturday at 2 p.m. with Rev. Dennis Mullins officiating. Born in Summerville, Mr. Beldin was a lifelong resident of Union County. He was a member of the Union Pacific Old Timers and the International Brotherhood of Fireman and Oilers. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Susan Beldin of La Grande; three step-sons, Leonard N. Cove, Union County, Oregon The death of A. A. Belden, at Portland, 11 a. m. Monday, September 5, 1921, at the age of near eighty-four years, was no surprise to his many Cove friends, as his illness had been of long duration. He left two sons and two daughters-Harry, Miles, Pearl and Kathryn. The last named was his faithful nurse throughout his widowed years, his wife having passed about six years ago. Summerville, Union County, Oregon Arthur F. Behrens, 90, Summerville, died Friday at Grande Ronde Hospital. Mr. Behrens was born Aug. 23, 1899, in La Grande, to August and Margareth (Kelin) Behrens. He married Ardra I. Littreal Nov. 13, 1923, in La Grande. He spent his life farming and ranching in the Grande Ronde Valley. Mr. Behrens was a member of the Elgin Masonic Lodge for more than 60 years. He was a member of the Oregon Wheat League and the Oregon Cattlemen’s Association and was Cattleman of the Year in 1976.
