Wilkinson, John – Obituary

Forty-two years a resident of Union county, Oregon, was John Wilkinson, who was born July 30, 1839, in Peoria, Illinois, and died in Walla Walla, Washington, where he went three weeks before for treatment in a hospital in that city. At the age of two years, he, with his parents, went to Missouri, where they remained eight years, then to the old Illinois home till 1858, when he started westward, spending four years with headquarters in Nebraska, freighting on the plains as far as Denver. Miss Grace E. Wilkinson died at the home of Dr. Myers, in Union, last Sunday afternoon, June 10, 1906, at about 5:30 o’clock. As noticed in last week’s Republican, Miss Wilkinson was brought from High Valley to Union Friday of last week, and was operated on for appendicitis, but she declined slowly until the time named, when she passed away. The case is a particularly sad one, owing to the popularity and youth of Miss Wilkinson and her long residence in the county, where her friends were many. Wilkinson, Charles – Obituary

Charles Wilkinson, aged 16, the son of John Wilkinson of High Valley, was drowned in a slough near Hendershott’s point last Saturday afternoon. He was in company with other boys who had gone to the place for the purpose of bathing. Cecelia Frances Wilkinson, aged 55 years and 4 months, died of paralysis at Union, March 23, 1913. The funeral took place from her late residence in North Union, Tuesday March 25th, at 2 p. m. Cecelia Frances Carroll was born in Clark county, Iowa, July 23, 1857, and died March 23, 1913, at the age of 55 years and 8 months. She came with her parents to Union in 1864. Died—At Vader, Washington, Monday, August 9, 1926, Andrew Wilkinson, age 84 years, 7 months and 14 days. The funeral took place from the Methodist church, Union, Friday, August 13, 1926, at 2:30 o’clock p.m. Word was received at Union early Monday morning of the serious illness of Mr. Wilkinson, and his daughter, Mrs. Webb, left that morning on No. 17 for Vader, but her father passed away before her arrival at Vader. La Grande, Oregon Evelyn Wilhelm Evelyn Wilhelm, 72, of La Grande, died June 1 at her home after an extended illness. Funeral services were held on Monday at the Summerville Cemetery Chapel. Loveland Funeral Chapel was in charge of the arrangements. Evelyn was born on May 5, 1935, to Gwen and Charles “Jack” Jackman in Richfield, Utah. She married Roy Wilhelm on May 25, 1952. Died at Elgin Charles E. Wilberg, residing at Portland, died at Elgin on last Sunday. He was in the employ of the O.R.& N. Co. surveying party and was taken sick one week ago to-day. He was taken to Elgin for medical aid as soon as his condition was known but after lingering for two days, died Sunday afternoon. Union county residents were severely shocked this week when the report of the murder of William Wigglesworth well known Union man, was reported. Mr. And Mrs. E. O. Zerek returned Tuesday from Touchet , Washington, where they were called last Friday by the death of their brother-in-law, Morris White.
