McAnish, Lester – Obituary

Fatal Hunting Accident Lester McAnish, 31, farmer of the Alicel neighborhood was instantly killed Tuesday when his gun accidentally discharged and he received a charge of buckshot in the breast. It is thought he was crawling through the brush, dragging the gun by the muzzle. He was alone at the time and his body was found late that evening by a searching party. Union, Union County, Oregon Nancy Delilah Mayfield, of Union, a native of Union county and a resident here all her life died Friday after a short illness. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon in the Methodist church at Union. Rev. G. A. Fortune officiating. She was born at Elgin, April 17, 1881. Her survivors are her five children, Mrs. C. R. Word has been received of the death of W. S. Mayberry at his home in Weiser, Idaho. Mr. Mayberry was employed as principal of the Wolf Creek school, but resigned before the holidays on account of ill heath. He had been a sufferer from rheumatism for some time. Andrew Mattson Drowned in Grande Ronde River Andrew Mattson, who came to this city last Thursday from Portland to work on the new railroad, was drowned in Grande Ronde river about 13 miles below this city Wednesday afternoon. Some years ago the young man passed through a severe attack of diptheria since which time he has never enjoyed perfect health. Mrs. L. J. Martin, died in this city Sunday morning at 1 o’clock. A post morten examination conducted by Dr. Honan and Chipman showed death was caused by cancer of the intestines. Mrs. Martin moved into this valley from Illinois, with her husband and family fifteen years ago. Her husband died shortly after arrival. The interment will take place in the Union cemetery.
