Mrs. Nevada Wood Stricken By Death Mrs. Nevada Wood, aged 70, resident of Baker county intermittently for more than 30 years, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W.H. Myers, in North Powder at 7:30 o’clock Monday morning. She was the victim of a heart attack and died while dressing. For some time Mrs. Wood had been suffering from asthma but was apparently in good health otherwise. Mrs. Wood was born in Provo, Utah, August 5, 1855. Her husband, B.F. La Grande Man Is Killed By Train With both arms ground off close to his shoulders by a freight train from which he fell after signaling for a clearance at the Ora Dell viaduct, west of La Grande last Sunday night, N.R. Wood a brakeman, dragged himself from the rails and walked half a mile for help. His shouts aroused George Shimmel, and Wood was rushed to the hospital in La Grande. Ridgefield, Wash. – Mrs. Martha Wood died at the home of her daughter Mrs. T. Cook, here July 23 at the age of 97 years. She was born in Kentucky, October 19, 1820. She was married to Judge Wood and to them was born nine children. As Judge Wood was leaving the courthouse one day he was shot in the back by a confederate. Catharina Ackerman was born at Waterloo, Monroe county, Ill. She was married to Adam Woll, Nov. 24. 1881, at New Design, Ill. They lived thereon a ranch for about 12 years, after which they came to Oregon, bringing with them their four children, moving on a ranch north of Union. They lived there about thirteen years and three more children were born to them. Giving up farming they moved to town and have since then resided here. Wolfe, who, with his wife and three sons, made their home in South Union some years ago. John Taylor Wolfe, 83, a pioneer and educator of Wyoming, who had been a resident of San Anselmo for 12 years, died Saturday morning in a San Francisco hospital following an illness of two weeks. Died, at her home at Pine Grove, May 31st, 1903, Mrs. Minerva Witty. Deceased was the eldest child of Mr. and Mrs. G.R. Tucker, of the Flat. She was born in Fulton county, Ark., August 4th, 1853. Wallowa County native Wayne Wilson, age 74, of La Grande, died Monday, Feb. 22, 1988 at Grande Ronde Hospital in La Grande. Wilson was born Dec. 23, 1913 in a buckboard wagon between Imnaha and Joseph, the son of John A. and Myrtle (Neil) Wilson. During World War II he served with the 44th Bomb Group of the 8th Air Force of the U.S. Army. He was honorably discharged as a sergeant in 1945.
