In La Grande, October 29, 1905. Mrs. Levina Thorp, aged 61 years. Death was due to pneumonia. Deceased had been a resident of Alicel for fourteen years and leaves a host of friends to mourn her loss. She leaves three sons, also a brother, S.L. Brooks, and numerous other relatives. The remains were interred in the Summerville cemetery Tuesday afternoon. Elgin Recorder Friday November 3, 1905
La Grande, Oregon Pamela Liebig-Thornton, 56, of La Grande, died at St. Luke’s Hospital in Boise after a long and courageous battle with cancer. A recitation of the rosary will begin at 7 tonight at Loveland Funeral Chapel and Crematory. Jeremiah B. Thomson was born in Virginia, April 10, 1886, and moved to Evening Shade, Arkansas when a small boy. He passed away at Roseberg, Oregon in his 87th year. His father was married twice. To his first marriage two sons were born – James and Malcolm; to the second marriage two children were born -Jeremiah and Narcissa. His brother Malcolm and his parents died in Arkansas. James married and with Jerry and Narcissa came to Oregon. Narcissa married James Vickers and resides at Winlock, Oregon. Island City, Oregon Stanley Eugene Thompson, 59, of Island City, died from unexpected natural causes on Aug. 24 at a hospital in Boise. A celebration of life at the Island City School will begin at 6 p.m. Sunday. He was born in Arcata, Calif., on Aug. 11, 1947 to Ana Mae (Posey) and Glen Thompson. He was raised and educated in Oakland, Calif., and Eufaula, Okla. Mr. Thompson enlisted in the Navy in April of 1965. She had been a resident of this section for many years and was loved and respected by everybody. Died at the Soldiers’ Home, Roseburg, Oregon, March 8th, 1923, Jerry B. Thompson, age 87 years. The remains arrived in Union on No. 24 Monday, March 12 and were accompanied by his daughter Mrs. Havemann and granddaughter, Elma Davis Havemann. Another of the pioneer residents of Elgin answered the last roll call at midnight, Friday April 4, 1913, when Mrs Jennie Thompson passed from life. The funeral services were conducted in the Christian Church Sunday afternoon, and the remains intered beside those of her husband, who died less than a year ago. Mrs. J.F. Thompson Died In Newbridge Jas. Utz returned last Saturday from Eagle Valley where he had spent several days last week, called by the illness of his mother-in-law Mrs. J.F. Thompson. Mrs. Thompson died on Tuesday after a stroke of paralysis. She had been a resident of Newbridge for many years and her death came as a shock so her many friends. E. C. Thompson passed away in this city last Sunday morning at 12:50 o’clock from heart trouble caused by after effects of the flu. The young man was a railroad telegrapher and had worked a trunk (?) at the North Powder station in times passed, but held a like position at Baker at the time of his death. Everett C. Sudden Death Blanche Thompson Blanche, the little four year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S.S. Thompson, died at 4 p.m. Tuesday after an illness of only a few hours. The little one was apparently as well as common until about 10 o’clock when it was taken suddenly with an ailment of the kidneys, and, although Dr. Whiting was called at once he was unable to stay the progress of the disease and the little one passed away at 4 o’clock that afternoon. Garrett “Capper” Tewinkel, 90, of Wenatchee, died Thursday, Nov. 18, 1999, at Parkside Care Center. He had lived in Wenatchee for six years and was a former longtime resident of LaGrande, Ore. He was a retired government civil engineer and photogrammetrist.
