Joseph. F. Teixeira, 84, of La Grande, died Oct. 7 at Grande Ronde Hospital. A memorial service will be planned for a later date. Loveland Funeral Chapel and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
Joe was born Nov. 4, 1924, on the family dairy farm in Bolinas, Calif. He married Elsie Ventura in 1948 and had two children, Rich and Elsie Jr. They later divorced and he remarried Audrey Newton in 1970.
He worked for the Tiburon and Mill Valley school district until moving to La Grande in 1978. He then worked for the
La Grande school district until he retired in 1987.
He loved to camp, fish, hunt, play pool and darts. Also he did a lot of wood carving.
He is survived by his wife, Audrey; son, Rich and his wife, Sharon Teixeira, of Fargo, N.C., Elsie and her husband, George Murphy, of California; step-children, Judy and her husband, Sheldon Goldstein, of Imbler, Cathy and her husband, Ray Crapo, of La Grande, Bud and his wife, Sheri Newton, of La Grande and Ron and his wife, Kim Newton, of Sherwood; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Irene Teixeria and Christina Silveria.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, and one sister.
