W. S. White raised a large family in the county. He was justice of the peace for a greater length of time than any man who ever lived in the county. He served in that capacity for twenty-five years. His family forms a part of the history of the county. His sons are all farmers and well-to-do citizens, respected and appreciated for their industry and energy. All are taxpayers and good citizens. Biographical Sketch of Rev. P. B. Bailey

Rev. P. B. Bailey, deceased, came to Texas in the year 1845. He became a citizen of Hopkins County in the year 1850. He was the father of seven children. These are all dead now but two Mrs. Mary Loving, mother of Wilber Loving, Hopkins County’s efficient and popular sheriff, and Mrs. M. E. Minter, wife of Capt. S. A. Minter, who lives in the Pine Forest neighborhood. He was a Methodist preacher and organized the first Methodist church that was ever established in the town of Sulphur Springs. Biographical Sketch of Rev. J. L. Preston

Rev. Mr. Preston was born in the state of Tennessee in the year 1839. When he arrived at his majority he migrated to Tutis County, Texas, where he met Miss Mahala J. Caudle and they were united in marriage. He then moved to Hopkins County. Eleven children were born to this union, eight of whom are living. R. R. Williams emigrated from the state of Arkansas in the year 1866 and located in Black Jack Grove, where he has since lived. He married Miss Susan Ward at the age of twenty-two years, in Arkansas. Nine children were the result of this union, six of whom are living. They are all citizens of the county, live near their parents and are doing well. R. Lindley was born in Polk County, Missouri in the year 1835. He migrated to Hopkins County with his father Jahu Lindley in 1849 and located on South Sulphur Creek where he was living when he died. Miller Green, who lives at Black Jack Grove, is a native Texan. He was born in Red River district in the year 1837. Two years after his birth his father moved into the vicinity of where Greenville in Hunt County is situated. In the year 1854 he moved to where he is now living. L. D. King married Miss Mary E. Hopkins, a daughter of Eldridge Hopkins. They have reared a family of interesting children-four boys and three girls. They are all married and have homes of their own. J. J. Martin was born in Alabama and reared in the State of Tennessee. He is an octogenarian and has lived in Texas since 1845. He came to Hopkins County 45 years ago. Biographical Sketch of J. F. Youngblood

J. F. Youngblood is the oldest man living in Hopkins County. He was born in the year 1805, and is therefore ninety-seven years old. Tennessee is his native state. He came to Texas in the year 1848. He moved to Harrison County, but remained there only a short time. This was in the day of Regulators and Moderators. He has suffered great misfortunes, almost a calamity in his married life, having lost four companions. He is to day living with his fifth wife. He has six children. Four of this number are living.

The Col. J. A. Weaver family was a prominent family in Hopkins County; there are only two of this noted family living in the county at this time. W. B. Weaver who married Celia Patrick, a daughter of a prominent and successful merchant of Sulphur Springs. G. M. Calvert was raised in Williamson County, Illinois. He came to the state of Texas when he was a young man, in the year 1854. Fred W. Conly was born in the state of North Carolina, August 29th, 1828. His father moved to Georgia when he was an infant three year old. He grew into manhood in the state of Georgia, and came to the state of Texas in the year 1852, and stopped in Cass County, where he met Miss Zilpha Peacock, won her affections and married her in the year 1857. Crockett H. Campbell was born in 1816, and is eighty-six years of age. He came to Hopkins County in the year 1841. There was not a single cabin on the south side of North Sulphur Creek at that time. Buffalo herds were roaming all over the country. He has shot and killed a number of buffalo as well as all kinds of animals and wild beasts.
