  1. There are many historic African-American cemeteries, large and small in Southampton County, Virginia. I represent The Helping Hand Cemetery in Courtland, Virginia currently open with approximately 475 interred. Today, this cemetery is managed by The Helping Hand Cemetery Club Trustees, descendants of the original Helping Hand Trustees of over 125 years ago. The upkeep of these cemeteries is a labor of love and the recognition of this labor is long overdue. Why are there no cemeteries on this list from Southampton County, Virginia?
