Turner Cemetery, Penokee, Graham County, Kansas

Turner Cemetery is located two and three-fourths miles South of Penokee, Kansas. In the early seventies the graves in a cemetery known as Mile Brook Cemetery were removed to a piece of ground given for that purpose by a Mr. Turner, and the place was known as Turner’s Cemetery. The oldest graves were those of two cowboys, one of them probably the Frank Simmon named below. Many of the markers were of limestone and have crumbled away until almost undecipherable at present. It is reported that there are many unmarked graves in this, one of the oldest cemeteries in Nebraska.
