Archie Burford, native of High Valley and a graduate of Cove high school, died unexpectedly Friday in Glendale, Cal. His sister, Mrs. Ray Hartley, and a nephew (Howard is son of Archie), Howard Burford, La Grande, left for Glendale Saturday.

Funeral services for Archie Reed Burford, who died Feb. 10 at his home in Glendale, Calif., were held at 10:00 a.m. on Feb. 14 in the Little Church of the Flowers, under the direction of a Los Angeles mortuary. Interment was at Forest Lawn memorial park. Rev. Palmquist, D.D. of Wilshire Methodist church officiated.

Burford was born June 28, 1892 at Cove. He was married to Lula M. Davis on Oct. 14, 1916. Survivors include his widow; a son Howard Burford, La Grande; a daughter, Mrs. LaVaughn Gauthier of Glendale, and three grandchildren.

Beside his immediate family, Burford leaves five brothers, William, Orphie and Frank, all of Union, Arthur of Hermiston and Claude of Jarvis, Ore. Five sisters, Mrs. Ruth Cockrell, Union, Mrs. Hazel Hartley and Mrs. Opal Gassett, Cove, Mrs. Vivian Mytenger of Pendleton and Mrs. Letha Parr of Anacortes, Wash. A number of other near relatives and a host of friends are also among the survivors.

Burford was well known here, having lived most of his lifetime in the vicinities of Union and Cove. He moved from Union to Eagle Valley and later to California.
