William Jerry “Doc” Welch died Dec. 17, 2004, at home in Tacoma after a valiant battle with cancer. Although he lived in Thailand and Tacoma much of the time after his 20 years in the U.S. Air Force, he always considered Haines and the Welch Ranch as his home. He was born in Glendale, Calif., on Aug. 25, 1926, to William Ray Welch and Pearl Welch Ercum. La Grande, Oregon Donald K. Paul, 81, long-time resident of La Grande, died April 14 at his home. Daniels-Knopp funeral home is in charge of arrangements. A memorial service will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church in La Grande with a reception to follow. Don was born June 7, 1926, to John E. and Mary K. Paul in Glendale, Calif.
