Rogers, Betty Doris – Obituary

La Grande, Oregon

Betty Doris Rogers, 79, of Yuma, Ariz., and formerly of La Grande, died Oct. 20 at the Yuma Regional Medical Center after suffering a stroke. No services are planned at this time.

Mrs. Rogers was born May 9, 1927, to Frank E. and Luva Roberts Messersmith in Alliance, Neb., one of seven children. She attended high school in Curtis, Neb., graduating in 1945. She studied for a year at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, then taught at a country school in Box Butte County, Neb.

She married Lyle Dunham Rogers on Sept. 27, 1947, in Alliance. The couple moved to La Grande, where she was active in Cub Scouts and County Extension. In late 1959 the Rogers moved to Pendleton, where they held various jobs.

They were involved with the Pendleton Round-Up for 10 years as members of the Main Street Cowboys and Sidesaddlers, promoters of the city. They were also active members of the Allons dance club and the Blue Mountain Good Sams RV club.

In 1975 she became a cosmetologist, and she owned her own salon for many years. They retired to Yuma, continuing to summer in Pendleton through 2005.

Survivors include her husband of 59 years; children and their spouses, Dennis Lee and Kathy Weddell Rogers of Mount Angel and Connie Lu and Gary Snowberger of Cupertino, Calif.; three grandchildren; a great-grandson; three brothers and a sister in Nebraska; and numerous nieces and nephews.
