La Grande, Oregon
Rose M. Allen, 97, formerly of La Grande, died Oct. 21 at her home in Bend. Autumn Funerals in Bend is in charge of arrangements.
She was born Sept. 30,1912, to John and Barbara Kline in Vancouver, Wash. She married Verne A. Allen May 31, 1941.
They moved to La Grande in September 1960. During the next 20 years she worked for several doctors and the Saint Joseph Hospital as a medical transcriptionist.
During that time she became involved with the La Grande Country Club.
She enjoyed playing golf with her husband and with her female friends. She and Verne were regulars at the Tuesday night golf game and potluck.
She also loved to go camping anywhere there was a creek or river.
Her other hobbies included reading and crossword puzzles.
In June 1989 they moved to Pacific City on the coast.
In 2001 she moved to Bend where she remained until her death.
She still has friends living in La Grande.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Susan M. (Allen) and Gary L. Baker; daughter, Ginny Allen of Bend; two granddaughters; two great-grandchildren; two step-grandsons; four step-great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Verne A. Allen; son, Chuck Allen; parents, John and Barbara Klein; and 10 brothers and sisters.
