The Records of this office show: That prior to October 31, 1902, applications were received by the Commission to the Five Civilized Tribes for the enrollment as citizens by intermarriage of the Cherokee Nation of the following named persons whose names appear upon the partial roll of Cherokee citizens, approved by the Secretary of the Interior, opposite the numbers following their respective name:

The name of no one of said persons is identified on the Cherokee authenticated roll of 1880.
It Is Therefore Ordered And Adjudged:
That in accordance with the decision of the Supreme Court of the United States, dated November 5. 1900, in the cases of Daniel Red Bird et al, vs. the United States, Nos, 125, 126, 127 and 128, said applicants are not entitled, under the provisions of Section 21, of the Act of Congress approved June 28, 1898 (30 Stats., 495), to enrollment as citizens by intermarriage of the Cherokee Nation, and their applications for enrollment as such are accordingly denied.

I am searching on information about my great grandmother, Ida Mae Nunley, born in May 8 1889-April 11, 1967.. It was told to me by my grandmother that she was full blooded Cherokee. I have searched 2 of the main rolls but have not been able to find her. Any information would be so helpful.
As a child there was a point when I became aware of a subtle “difference “that of my mother and 2 uncles from their youngest sibling and my grandparents, Differences in how they were treated by my grandparents as well as appearance. It was unsettled and confused unable to comprehend but sensed it wasnt right being my parents always loved /cared/treated my sister and I the same , as well as my 3 older half siblings
I asked my mother why she and my uncles were “different ” form their sister my mother shared with me , she and my 2 uncles have a “different” father than their youngest sibling (my aunt) the man Ive known as grandpa was not their dad but he had adopted them upon marrying my grandma , she had not seen or heard from their biological father since she was 4 yrs old( Tulsa Ok 1954 est.) and the only thing she remembered/knew of him his name was William (Bill) Charles Rogers Cherokee Native American and our great great great (give or take a great) Was William Charles Rogers The Last principal chief of the Cherokee Nation. My Mother’s name was Nancy Yvonne Taylor( Taylor adopted father’s surname)she was born 10/18/1950 in Tulsa Ok . My Uncle’s name is William( Bill) Charles Taylor (Taylor adopted surname) Michael Taylor(adopted surname). I was also told my mom and 2 uncles were not treated equally by their adopted dad because of his distaste for other races(racist) , my grandmother was German/Russian (white ) Her name was Mary Lou Gray Taylor. Now all deceased except for 1 uncle and my aunt but both have very little or no info so the only option may be to petition court to unseal my mom’s original birth records. Im beginning my journey to discover my heritage, where I come from with little or no disturbance of the lives of those I may , or may not be related to. Any and all info anyone may have to help guide the path of my journey would be greatly appreciated as well as advice on how or where to start research. Thank you
There is no such thing as an Indian “princess” There are daughters of chiefs..no princesses. In fact it is a joke among the Indian tribes and you can even buy T-shirts that say it. In order to qualify for enrollment in the Cherokee Nation, you must prove your direct lineage to someone on the Final Rolls of the Cherokee Nation. Direct line means either through your maternal grandmothers or paternal grandfathers.. not cousins, not uncles, aunts, friends, or intermarried whites. What the latter can do sometimes is help you find that direct ancestor and follow through to see if they are enrolled on the final rolls. Other tribes have their own requirements, which may include a Degree of Indian Blood, and some registries of some tribes are closed.
I have been told that my family left the trail of tears and did not sign the treaty and ran into Okeefenokee swamp in South ga been trying to prove it for the longest we r not on the scrolls my last name is Taylor ,Harper, Campbell and even sprapley is my grandparents last name did DNA and it says I have native American ,Indian, and asian ,and I know that’s a joke. Want to point out that Cherokee is only one of the tribes that do not call the Chiefs daughters proncesses. In fact many do. For instance I’m an enrolled member in The Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma we do have princesses. Also I’m enrolled into another Tribe (not federally recognized) The Saponi-Catawba Nation my ties to this tribe comes from The Catawba Nation which also uses therm princess
My husbands maternal grandmother claimed she was an Native American. Her name was Mary Martha Caroline Clark, she also went by the name of Patsey and Minnie. She was born ca: 1888 and said she was adopted by a Clark family in either Franklin or Marion Counties in Alabama. She passed away in 1978. I have to say, she really looked like she was a Native American. She married a Silas Wooten in Marion County, AL. My sister in law claimes that her dad was an Entrikan and that he was the Indian. Can anyone help solve this mysetery. I can’t find any records for her until 1910.

I found Clem C. Moton and his daughter Birtie. I didn’t find the Goodwin name anywhere but this is what I found. Who was the man who gave her the goodwin name. That would help to see if this is the right Bertie, but this Bertie’s father was Clem C. Moton. Hope this helps in your search.

Hi, I’m trying to do research of my Grand parents,(Clarks). I found a Lilly Clark through the Cherokee inter marriage site. My Grandfathers name was Joel Dennis Clark. We were always told we were part Native Indian, of the Cherokee Tribe. Is there any way I can be sure of This? I would forever be so proud to be a part of the Cherokee Nation. Looking for my great, great grandmother, a cherokee (Elizabeth) who married my great great grandfather William S. Hampton, (white), they lived and possibly married in N/S Carolina in mid 1800’s, probably moved to Alabama and then Tennessee. She is from the Eastern Band of Cherokee before the Trail of Tears. Elizabeth and William is the father of my Great grandfather George Washington Hampton.
I think I may have some info on this for you. My ggGrandfather (John James Mitchell) married a Malinda Hampton who’s father was William Hampton. His wife was Mildreth George. I know the names are a tiny bit off but may be a link? This was in the Cherokee County GA area (North GA/TN). My 2g’s were born in South Carolina 1820-1830ish. I cannot pull back anything on my side other than census reports and his military history. No marriage dates or death dates for the Mitchell side but can go back further on the Hampton side. Not sure if this was due to an outside marriage or what? Maybe this will help.

My grandfather, Albert With Roberts always told that we had Cherokee lineage from his mother’s side. Her name was Mollie Amanda Chatham born in 1858.
