Biographical Sketch of J. P. Kinnison and H. A. Kinnison

J.P. and H.A. Kinnison, born in 1838 and 1840 near St. Louis, embarked on a pioneering journey in 1853, settling first in San Mateo, California. They became early agricultural and stock-raising innovators in the Powder River Valley. In 1876, they successfully drove cattle to Wyoming. Now residing near Baker City, Oregon, they own 1,800 acres of land and enjoy the fruits of their labor. J.P. has been married twice, with his current wife managing their household of seven children.

Jones, Ethel Ardine Newby Mrs. – Obituary

Ethel Ardine Jones, aged 88, passed away on December 2, 2000, in Rawlins, Wyoming. A former resident of Baker City and La Grande, she was born on July 24, 1912, to Robert and Ada Violet Hathaway Newby and married twice, with her second husband, Irvin Nelson Jones, predeceasing her in 1995. An accomplished restaurant worker, she enjoyed fishing, crafts, and was actively involved in her church until health issues arose. She is survived by numerous children, grandchildren, and relatives.

Britton, Lois Wilson Butts Mrs. – Obituary

Lois Butts Britton, 88, of Baker City, passed away on June 23, 2002, in Gillette, Wyoming. Born Lois Victoria Wilson on August 27, 1913, in Richland, she graduated from Eagle Valley High School in 1932. Lois had a diverse life as a pack string operator, tax collector, postmaster, and shop owner, while raising her family. An active individual, she embraced new experiences throughout her life. She is survived by her husband, Chuck, and numerous family members. Memorial services were held in Baker City and Gillette.

Kimberling, Mabel P. Nelson Mrs. – Obituary

Mabel P. Kimberling, 98, of Cheyenne, Wyoming, and formerly of Baker City, passed away on May 1, 2001. Born on July 14, 1902, in Unity, she attended local schools and Baker Business School. A member of Calvary Baptist Church and the Royal Neighbors of America, she is survived by six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Mabel was preceded in death by her two husbands, a daughter, and two brothers. Her memorial service is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Saturday at Coles-Strommer Funeral Home.

Slack, Lyle B. – Obituary

Lyle B. Slack, 64, passed away at his home on February 7, 1979. Born on October 14, 1914, in Summerville, Oregon, he graduated from La Grande High School and served in the Army during World War II. He married Ruth Hopkins in 1943 and later operated Slack Upholstery Shop in Milton-Freewater after farming in Summerville. He is survived by his wife, a son, a daughter, a sister, and three grandchildren. The funeral is scheduled for February 9 at Munselle-Rhodes Funeral Home.
