Elizabeth Barnhart Schnebly, 95, of 502 E. Fifth, a life-time resident of the Kittitas Valley, died Saturday [May 21, 1983] at Haven House Nursing Home.
She was born Oct. 15, 1887, in the Fairview District, a daughter of the late Frank C. and Matilda (Bailes) Barnhart and a granddaughter of the Rev. Keithley and Sarah (Marshall) Bailes and Thomas Henderson and Mary (Letterman) Barnhart, all pioneer settlers of the Kittitas Valley.
Mrs. Schnebly was educated in local schools and attended one of the early classes at the then Ellensburg Normal School. She and Joseph Jay Schnebly were married on Oct. 20, 1907, and they farmed in the Fairview District until his death in 1947.
She was a member of the First Christian Church and a charter member of the Jolly Neighbors Club. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. John F. (Doris) Clymer of Jackson, Wyo., and Lorraine Schnebly of Ellensburg; one son, Joseph C. Schnebly of Ellensburg; nine grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Max (Ruth) McKenzie of Yakima.
Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the IOOF Cemetery. The Rev. Bill Dietz will officiate. Friends who wish to attend the funeral may meet at the cemetery.
The family suggests memorials to the First Christian Church or a charity of donor’s choice.
