Peter Michels, 63, a resident of Ellensburg since 1882, died at his home, 1108 B Street, early this morning [May 19, 1942] after a lingering illness. Born in St. James, Minn., August 8, 1878, he came to Ellensburg 60 years ago with his parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Martin Michels, valley pioneers. He received his education in the public schools here. On October 30, 1902, he was married to Miss Minnie Taylor, of Ellensburg. Morrison, Chester J. – Obituary

Chet Morrison, 73, Rt. 5 Box 270, died Friday evening [December 5, 1980] at Kittitas Valley Community Hospital. He was born in Ellensburg on August 9, 1907, a son of the late Thomas J. and Lilly (Ferguson) Morrison. He attended school in Kittitas and from 1923 to 1950 he followed the rodeo circuit. He and Bertha Zumbrunnen were married in Yakima on April 8, 1938. Since 1942, they have operated a ranch in the Fairview District on Nanum Road. Phelps, Mary Smith – Obituary

Mrs. Mary Phelps, a resident of Ellensburg from 1884 to 1945, died recently [January 16, 1951] in Everett, where she has lived for the past five years. She was born in Pike County, Missouri, in 1867. Surviving are three sons, Gilbert of Everett, Tracy of Chelan, and Odie Phelps of Seattle; a sister, Mrs. Ella Wilson of Everett, and a brother, Sherman Smith, of Ellensburg. Sorensen, Swan – Obituary

Funeral services will be held this afternoon at Honeycutt’s for Swan Sorensen, 73, well-known farmer here for the past 50 years, who passed away Tuesday [January 9, 1937] at his home on Route 2. Rev. August Schroder, 89, well-known Ellensburg resident and retired Snohomish County farmer, died yesterday [April 11, 1947] afternoon at his home here. Had he lived until next Sunday, he would have been 90 years old. Born at Hamburg, Germany, April 20, 1857, he came to the United States when he was 27 years old and to Washington State in 1888. Helen Bailes, 90, former Ellensburg area resident, died Monday evening at her home in Seattle. She was born December 17, 1889 in Oregon. She married Amos Bailes in Oregon [married in Yakima Co., WA]. They settled in the Fairview District where they homesteaded until his death in 1932. Mrs. Bailes moved to Seattle in 1943. Toppenish residents were shocked to learn early this week of the death of Sheriff Lew Evans. Mr. Evans who lived on a ranch near Buena was for a number of years a community leader in Toppenish. Death came to the popular county official in St. Elizabeth Hospital where he was taken after he had suffered a heart attack at his home one hour before. Mary Margaret (Mae) Graaff, 93, 107 W. 11th Ave., died Thursday evening [December 19, 1985]. She was born in Ellensburg on Dec. 27. 1891, one of 11 children of George and Cecilia (Quinn) Mitchell {Michels]. Mrs. Graaff was the last survivor of the family. She and Francis A. Funeral services are pending for Mrs. Lottie Harris, 35, who died today [April 16, 1964] at Bernath’s Nursing Home. She had just been transferred here from the Oaks Nursing Home in Yakima. She was born Jan. 2, 1878 in Ellensburg. Her husband, Gide [Giles] Harris died in August 1931. Mrs. Harris is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Lola Hodgson, Ellensburg, and Mrs. Gertie Werner, Seattle, three grandchildren and two great grandchildren as well as several brothers and sisters, all living in the Kittitas Valley. Mary Ann Page, 85, died Thursday [October 26, 1978] at a local nursing home. She was born Aug. 10, 1893 at Getchell, Wash. She and Alfred O. Page were married in Seattle on September 24, 1912. They came to the Ellensburg area in 1919 and farmed on Route 3. Following the death of Mr. Page in April, 1964, she moved to town and made her home at 312 North Anderson until entering the nursing home. Marguerite L. Seaton, 72, of Rt. 5, died Thursday morning [December 13, 1984] at her home. She was born Jan. 18, 1912, in Ellensburg, a daughter of Emil and Marie Stampfly.
