M. Elizabeth Erickson, 82, died Wednesday [August 27, 1975] at Kittitas Valley Community Hospital. Born July 29, 1892 in Ellensburg, she was the daughter of pioneer parents Mr. and Mrs. Elwood Dixon who came to Ellensburg from Walla Walla in 1879. She was married to William F. Erickson, Dec. 25, 1919 in Ellensburg. They farmed north of town, in the Badger Pocket and later on the west side. Succumbing to an attack of heart failure, Mrs. Olive Dixon died at North Yakima Wednesday evening January 1, 1917. She was the wife of F. M. Another member of our ‘little’ Grand Army post answered the final call Friday [June 8, 1917] when J. W. Dixon died. Just a week after his 88th birthday, which occurred on Memorial Day, he passed quietly away after an illness of only a few hours. Robert Cooke, 72, of Ellensburg, died Friday at the Gold Leaf Care Center. He was born on Long Island, New York, January 1, 1917. He and Gwen (Ferguson) Davis were married in Seattle on Sept. 20, 1951. They came to Ellensburg in 1957. Mr. Cooke was a merchant seaman until retirement in 1965. Death this morning [March 7, 1922] claimed one of the earliest and best known residents of the Kittitas valley when Rufus Cooke passed away. Mr. Cooke died this morning at the home of his sister, Mrs. P. H. Schnebly where he has been ill for the past two weeks. The Kittitas Valley had been his home since 1870 when he came here from Yakima with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. P. Schnebly. Jensen, 68, a widely known Ellensburg resident, was instantly killed when a Northern Pacific passenger train struck his automobile at the grade crossing on South Main street yesterday afternoon. His car was hit at 4:45 P.M. by the second section of N.P. passenger No. 5, running two hours behind the first section, which arrived at 2:45 P.M. Clarence R. (Bud) Hayes, a son of pioneer Kittitas Valley parents, died at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Yakima Monday at the age of 65. He had been hospitalized for three weeks and had been in failing health for about a year. Hayes was born at the family home in the Denmark district Dec. 13, 1891, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. James T. Hayes, who settled on the ranch in 1883. Harvey Huss died at his home in the Fairview District Tuesday [January 27, 1920] at the advanced age of 80 years. Mr. Huss had been a resident of Kittitas Valley since 1885 and was well known in this community. Mr. Huss was born in Ohio in 1840. In 1863 he married [Dorcas] Jane Graham, who survives him. In 1865 he crossed the plains by ox team and settled in Grant County, Oregon, coming to this valley in 1885 and settled upon the ranch where he died, which is located about 12 miles northeast of Ellensburg. The death of Mrs. Harvey Huss, aged 77 years, occurred Wednesday morning at the home of her son, F. Huss, caused by bronchial pneumonia. Funeral arrangements have not yet been completed. Dorcas was the daughter of William Graham and Catharine Pruitt. She married Elisha Harvey Huss in Missouri on April 3, 1863. Dorcas died February 11, 1925. She was buried in the IOOF Cemetery. Milo Francis Hayes, 63, who nearly a quarter of a century ago made his home here, died suddenly [April 27, 1937] at the home of his sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. W. T.
