Loney, Ruth Zandell – Obituary

Ruth Zandell Loney, 76, of 1015 W. Chestnut St. died at her home April 24, 1993. The rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Herring Funeral Home, 315 W. Alder St. The funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick Catholic Church. Father Otto Koltzenburg of Assumption Catholic Church will officiate for both services. Burial will follow in the Catholic Section of Mountain View Cemetery, 2120 S. Second Avenue.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Walla Walla Community Hospice, Walla Walla Chore Service or Walla Walla Senior Citizens Center through the funeral home.

Mrs. Loney was born Aug. 24, 1916, in Walla Walla to Alfred and Ella Draper Zandell, area pioneers. Her grandfather Draper was a soldier at Fort Walla Walla and is buried in the cemetery there. She graduated from St. Vincent Academy here then worked at St. Mary’s Hospital as a nurse’s aide until her marriage on Nov. 8, 1941, to Orville Richard Loney in Walla Walla.

She became a mother and homemaker and stayed home to raise her family. Mr. Loney died in March 1956. After her children were grown, Mrs. Loney worked for a time at St. Vincent de Paul. A member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, she enjoyed caring for its alter linen. She was also interested in crocheting and embroidering.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Janet and Rodger Berley and Deanna and Robert Milligan, all of Walla Walla; two sons and daughters-in-law, Richard Jr. and Nancy Loney of Seattle and David and Peggy Loney of Walla Walla; a sister, Mary Zandell of Walla Walla; a brother, John Emil of Everett, Wash.; nine grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two infant sons,; a sister, Agnes Hoffman; and a great granddaughter.
