Yana Tribe
The Yana Indians were a distinct tribe inhabiting a region in California, from the Round Mountains to Deer Creek. Their territory was bordered by the Wintun tribe, with whom they often clashed. In August 1864, a massacre led by miners nearly eradicated the Yana, reducing their population from about 3,000 to around 50. By 1902, only a few individuals remained. Notably, several of their myths have been documented by the folklorist Curtin.
