Neutral Tribe

The Neutral Tribe, a confederation of Iroquoian tribes in 17th century Ontario, was known for its neutrality during conflicts between the Iroquois and Hurons. They occupied around 28 villages with a significant population, engaging in agriculture and trade, notably in tobacco. Missionaries, like Father Daillon, recorded their customs and governance. The Neutrals faced increasing aggression from the Iroquois, leading to their eventual destruction by 1650-51. Despite attempting to maintain peace and neutrality, they became entangled in the conflicts of surrounding tribes.
