Collateral Tribes of the Siouan

This post discusses lesser-known tribes related to the Manahoac or Monacan, such as the Mahoc, Nuntaneuck, Mohetan, and Meipontsky. While these tribes are referenced in historical accounts, their exact connections and roles in colonial Virginia are uncertain. The Mahoc, for instance, were noted as hostile to the English in the late 17th century, while the Mohetan engaged in agriculture and appeared to have peaceful relations with neighboring tribes. Ultimately, many tribal identities became obscured or absorbed into others post-colonial conflicts.
