After the Treaty of Fort Stanwix in 1784, Red Jacket envisioned the unification of Indian tribes to counter white encroachment, a sentiment echoed by Thayendanegea (Brant), who sought to form a grand confederacy of tribes. Brant’s efforts to gather support from various nations intensified as discontent arose over land treaties. Despite attempts at diplomacy, including treaties with the Six Nations and other tribes, tensions persisted, exacerbated by border skirmishes. Peace efforts were met with ongoing challenges, highlighting the complex relationship between the United States and Indigenous nations.
