Kasihta

The Kasihta Tribe, known as “Big Kasihta,” originated from the Creek Confederacy and shares a common ancestry with the Coweta. Historical records trace their first documentation to the De Soto chronicles, where they are identified as the province of Cofitachequi. Over time, the Kasihta relocated, with evidence showing them near Broad River in northern Georgia by the late 17th century. By 1832, multiple Kasihta settlements existed, reflecting their resilience and adaptation within the Creek Nation and documenting their significance in early colonial encounters.
