Huma Tribe

The Huma tribe, a Choctaw community, resided along the Mississippi River during early French colonization, with a settlement noted in 1699 consisting of 350 families. Their territory was marked by a boundary pole separating them from the Bayogoula. In 1706, the Tonika sought refuge with the Huma but eventually turned against them, leading to significant losses. The surviving members later moved near New Orleans and along Bayou La Fourche, but the tribe is now believed to be extinct.
