Chilucan Indians
The Chilucan Tribe is noted in a 1726 enumeration of Florida’s indigenous groups. The name may derive from the Muskogee term “chiloki,” suggesting a linguistic connection to surrounding peoples. Two missions, San Buenaventura and Nombre de Dios, were associated with the Chilucan, with recorded populations of 70 and 62, respectively. The presence of Mocama Indians at San Buenaventura indicates a potential Timucuan link, reflecting the complex interactions of these early Florida tribes.
