Armouchiquois Tribe

The Armouchiquois Indians, a name derived from the Abnaki language, referred to various Algonquian tribes along New England’s coast, south of the Sacro River. Early French explorers, including Champlain, noted distinct linguistic differences from neighboring tribes. This group encompassed tribes such as the Mohegan, Pequot, and Massachuset, who were often in conflict with tribes from New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. The term reflects the complex intercultural dynamics of the region during the early contact period.
