Aranama Tribe
The Aranama were a small agricultural tribe located along the south coast of Texas. They were temporarily settled at the mission of Espiritu Santo de Zúñiga, where they interacted with other tribes, including the Karankawa. By 1822, their population was estimated at 125. Reports in 1834 indicated that many Aranama had fled to other missions, and by 1843, the tribe was considered extinct. Their history reflects the challenges faced by indigenous peoples during the period of colonization.
