Agua Caliente Tribe
The Agua Caliente Tribe, a small Shoshonean group in Southern California, is associated linguistically with the Kawia, Luiseno, and Juaneño. They inhabit villages such as Gupa and Wilakal, the latter now part of Los Coyotes Reservation. Legal decisions led to the reassignment of their lands, culminating in a 1902 Congressional act that added territory to Pala Reservation and facilitated the relocation of the tribe and neighboring Diegueño rancherias in 1903, with a population of approximately 300 at that time.
