Achomawi Tribe
The Achomawi Indians, part of the Shastan family, historically inhabited the Pit River area in northeastern California, excluding specific valleys inhabited by the Atsugewi. A notable village was located near Fallriver Mills in Shasta County. Though the Achomawi and Atsugewi languages are related, they differ significantly. The term Achomawi has also been used to refer to all Indians of the Palaihnihan family, known collectively as the Pit River Indians.
