Frederic D. Whitwell, an attorney in Geneva, New York, hails from a significant family lineage. His grandfather, John Whitwell, was an early New York settler and served as a justice of the peace. William, Frederic’s father, born in Geneva in 1836, has been the president of the J. W. Smith Dry Goods Company for thirty-five years and has also engaged in public service as a cemetery commissioner. He married Caroline A. Davenport and has three children, including Frederic D. Whitwell.

Biographical Sketch of Frederic D. Whitwell

Frederic D. Whitwell, born on September 2, 1876, in Geneva, New York, is the son of William and Caroline A. Whitwell. He graduated with honors from Geneva High School and Hobart College before being admitted to the bar in 1903, establishing a legal practice in Geneva. Previously, he tutored Latin and Greek. An active Republican, he served on the executive committee for direct primaries and was a civil service commissioner for three years. He is affiliated with several fraternities and the Episcopal church and is currently unmarried.
