Biographical Sketch of Rev. Jonathan B. Tombes, D. D.
Rev. Jonathan B. Tombes, D.D., born in Albany, New York, was an accomplished theologian and educator. After graduating from Madison University in 1845, he served as a pastor in various churches, including the Fourth Baptist Church in Virginia and North Baptist Church in Philadelphia. He was crucial in founding the Central Baptist Church in Los Angeles after moving to Southern California in 1875. Alongside his pastoral duties, he engaged in horticulture and contributed scholarly articles to church papers. He married Mary A. McFadden, and they have two children.
