A genealogy of the Lake family of Great Egg Harbour in Old Gloucester County in New Jersey : descended from John Lade of Gravesend, Long Island; with notes on the Gravesend and Staten Island branches of the family. This volume of nearly 400 pages includes a coat-of-arms in colors, two charts, and nearly fifty full page illustrations – portraits, old homes, samplers, etc. The coat-of-arms shown in the frontspiece is an unusually good example of the heraldic art!

Biography of John W. Souder

John W. Souder, born on April 8, 1846, in Indiana, became a notable farmer in Douglas County, Missouri. Raised in a family of thirteen children, he faced adversity early, losing his right hand at fourteen. After farming in Gasconade County, he homesteaded in Ozark County before moving to Douglas County in 1882, where he has thrived in agriculture and stockraising on his 446-acre farm. A Republican and community leader, he served in the Legislature and, alongside his wife Nancy, raised ten children while valuing education.
