Shadden

Thomas J. Shadden, a pioneer who arrived in Oregon in 1842, has witnessed significant changes over his eighty years. Born in Tennessee, he faced hardships before embarking on his journey west. Traveling with a small party, they encountered numerous challenges, including terrifying encounters with Native Americans. After a difficult winter in Oregon, he briefly moved to California before finally settling in Yamhill County, Oregon. Reflecting on his experiences, Shadden takes pride in the transformation of Oregon from a sparse region to a thriving state.
