Biography of Martin Rigney

Martin Rigney, originally from County Kings, Ireland, immigrated to New York City in 1851. After three years as a baker, he moved to Bloomfield, New York, where he initially worked as a farm laborer before purchasing his own farm in 1870. He passed away in 1880, with his widow managing the homestead until her death in 1887. Their son, Edward E. Rigney, became a successful farmer, store owner, and influential Democrat, known for his public service and support of community initiatives, including establishing a tuberculosis hospital.

Biographical Sketch of J. B. Rigney, M. D.

J. B. Rigney, M. D., was born in Paoli, Indiana, to William H. Rigney, a notable local official. At sixteen, he moved to Terre Haute and, disliking farm life, pursued medicine. He began his studies with Dr. James H. Sherwood and later graduated from Rush Medical College in 1863. After serving as a hospital steward until 1866, he practiced medicine near Terre Haute before relocating to Arthur in 1867, where he married Ora F. McDonald in 1868.
